Abortion and Ultrasounds

The Right To Know (Ultrasounds and Abortion)

Abortion is hardly a cut and dry issue. Pro-Life advocates are motivated by the belief that human personhood begins at conception, thus, an abortion murders a baby. Some Pro-lifers accept termination of a pregnancy in special cases, others do not. Pro-Abortion activists more often than not believe that human life becomes a "person" some time after conception, though few agree on the exact moment. Some supporters of abortion will tell you that life begins when the embryo's heart begins beating, or when the fetus begins to look human, or when the child becomes sentient, or it has half emerged from the mother's body, or is born, or is severed from its mother and is able to function independently. Therefore, those who support legalized abortion believe a woman should have the choice to abort the pregnancy prior to that time the fetus becomes a person. There is no single pro-life position and no single pro-abortion position. In fact, the only thing the two groups may have in common is the desire to see a reduction in the number of abortions performed.

To achieve a reduction in the number of abortions, many pro-lifers promote supporting services for women in crisis pregnancies. In addition to this, many pro-lifers also seek legal restrictions on abortion access. The group that calls themselves pro-choice most often states that a reduction of abortions performed can be achieved by promoting better comprehensive birth control education in schools, to women who are sexually active, and greater access to contraceptives.

Lost in the debate between the "Right To Life" and the "Right To Choose" is "The Right To Know." After all, both groups agree that better education and learning as much knowledge as is available regarding abortion can assist a woman in better determining what she wants to do when faced with this very significant decision.

Chris Slattery, founder of Expectant Mother Care (also known as EMC Frontline Pregnancy Centers), has provided a new opportunity for knowledge in this debate. He believes a woman must be armed with all of the knowledge available before choosing to abort a pregnancy, including seeing an ultrasound of their unborn babies.

Chris Slattery joins Political Pistachio Radio tonight to discuss this seldom talked about opportunity that most abortion clinics refuse to discuss. Abortion clinics would prefer not to show ultrasounds to expectant mothers who have decided to put their unborn child through the physically painful procedure of abortion, and themselves through the emotionally painful procedure. But why would abortion clinics wish not to give women this additional opportunity for knowledge? The reason is simple, because seeing the ultrasounds changes the minds of previously abortion-minded women. What loving mother could possibly look her baby in the eyes and go through with the procedure of abortion that will affect her for a lifetime?

Real Men, Real Heroes

Real Heroes, Real Men

Whether it’s freeing slaves in Sudan or racing to the terrorist attack in Beslan, Russia that left over 300 children dead as they began the 2004 school year, John Giduck and Special Forces Sergeant Major John A. Anderson, know all about commitment.

Co-authoring the newly released, “The Green Beret in You” with Anderson, Giduck follows up his first book about the Beslan school slaughter with a very powerful message about what it means to be a Green Beret and how those principles apply to everyday life.

In 2005, Giduck gave readers a look into the barbarism of modern warfare when he wrote about his experiences working with Russian Special Forces and meeting up with them again in Beslan during the 2004 siege. Here in America, both Giduck and Anderson believe we have headed down a dangerous road, where gender roles have been set aside, and American men have become a mere shadow of what men once were.

Giduck and Anderson were my guests tonight on Political Pistachio Radio. If you missed it, listen to the archived episode HERE.

Learn About The Terror Attack by Chechnyans in John Giduck's Book: Terror at Beslan: A Russian Tragedy With Lessons for American Schools.

The Green Beret In You gives a powerful message about what it means to be a Green Beret-esque committed living into your life. Brad Thor says about the book, "The essential guide to manhood. If John Wayne had left a how-to manual on being a real man, this would be it."

Chinese Earthquake

Powerful Earthquake Rocks Central China

Chinese state media reports that the earthquake buried 900 students in central China on Monday and killed at least 107 people. The earthquake was 7.8-magnitude, sending thousands of people fleeing from buildings miles away in Beijing and Shanghai. The quake's fury was felt as far away as Pakistan, Vietnam and Thailand.

In addition to the 107 people that had died, 34 people were injured. Four of the deaths were children who died when two elementary schools in Chongqing municipality collapsed. One person was killed when the trembler toppled a water tower in neighboring Sichuan province where the earthquake was centered.

It is still unknown if any of the 900 buried students are alive.

The quake struck about 60 miles northwest of Chengdu at 2:28 p.m. and there were several smaller aftershocks, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site.

A text message by an Israeli student in the region stated: "Traffic jams, no running water, power outs, everyone sitting in the streets, patients evacuated from hospitals sitting outside and waiting."

One Chinese news source stated that an underground water pipe ruptured near the city's southern railway station, flooding a main thoroughfare. Reporters saw buildings with cracks in their walls but no collapses.

Beijing, some 930 miles to the north, suffered rattled buildings during this quake less than three months before the Chinese capital is expected to be full of hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors for the Summer Olympics.

A number of Beijing office towers were evacuated. The main offices and housing for the media offices of the organizers of the Olympics were evacuated as well.

The quake was felt as far away as the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, where some people felt the rumbling of the ground and the swaying of the office buildings was enough reason to flee into the streets downtown. A building in the Thai capital of Bangkok also was evacuated after the quake was felt there.

Experts say a magnitude 7.8 earthquake is considered a major event, capable of causing widespread damage and injuries in populated areas. The last serious earthquake in China was in 2003, when a 6.8-magnitude quake killed 268 people in Bachu county in the west of Xinjiang. China's deadliest earthquake in modern history struck the northeastern city of Tangshan on July 28, 1976, killing 240,000 people. The death toll may rise with this one, and may include the 900 buried students. My prayers are with them that they are alive, and survived this cataclysmic natural disaster.
